June 28th    V Shadwell Home

The u15s secured a fine victory this Sunday against Shadwell.   Winning the toss Shadwell elected to bat.  Church Fenton’s bowling continued its steady improvement with u13s Joel Muirhead, George Watson, and Aiden Rucklidge playing their part.  Unfortunately the under 15s fielding was not up to the high standards shown over the last 3 to 4 weeks and a decent performance could have seen Shadwell limited to nearer 100 rather than their final score of 121 for 4.

Church Fenton’s reply started well as openers James Richardson and Jack Watson seeing off the first 5 overs at rate of 5 or so an over.  Unfortunatley Jack managed to put his back whilst completing a fine cover drive for 4.  This saw him retired hurt for 18. Any concerns that the run rate may drop were soon put to bed as Reuben and James accelerated through the gears.  Reuben in particular showed great maturity in his performance making sure that the batsman extracted every possible run from each shot.  When Reuben(37) and James (22) were out Church Fenton were nearing three figures and needing only 30 or so off 6 overs.  Jonty Muirhead and Jake Wright saw Church Fenton home in the 18th over to secure the first victory of the season.

A big well done to all concerned.  Given the recent near misses it was great to finally get a win that, given the teams improvement was richly deserved. Many thanks to Alex Grace for scoring, Jamie and Pat for sorting out the kitchen.

May 10th V TABS h   CFCC 78 for 4 off 20    TABS 79 for 2 off 12.

Church Fenton U15s opened their season with a home game against TABS.  After winning the toss CFCC opted to bat with Jack Watson and James Richardson putting on a 50 partnership.  After  Jack’s retirement (41 not out) the innings petered out with CFCC scoring 78 for 4 against some tight bowling by TABS.

The prospect of a close game was soon to pass as TABS aggressively chased down the Fenton score with 8 overs to go for 2 wickets. Overall a positive start against a good team.
